The two Airbus A340s were stolen from Siauliai airport in Lithuania, as reported by Le Figaro. The facts date back to the beginning of 2024. The devices belonged to the Gambian leasing company “Macka Invest”.
According to Lithuanian public broadcaster, “these two A340s were supposed to fly to Sri Lanka and the Philippines”. Takeoff clearance had been given for both flights. Except they never arrived at their destination. They landed in Iran, where their transponders were turned off.
A third plane saved
Shortly after, the air platform “ch-aviation” reported that a plane had landed at Mehrabad airport in Tehran. The second landed on the tarmac of Konarak airport in Chabahar, in the south of the country. A loot estimated at 300 million dollars.
A third plane, still belonging to “Macka Invest”, remained in Siauliai. According to the airport director, Aurelia Quezada, who spoke publicly, “he was not allowed to take off because of the spare parts he was carrying”.
In 2020, the Iranian regime had already acquired two old A340s from the French Air Force, sold at auction in 2020. The two quadjets were bought for 840,000 euros at auction, and recovered after an improbable journey to Istres to Indonesia.”
