However, a new series is hot on its heels: The Coke Clans, currently on the second step of the podium. Added to the Netflix catalog on Friday June 21, this Spanish series is a real hit and Internet users appreciate it all the more because the story is inspired by real events. It tells how Ana, a lawyer, wanted revenge for the murder of her father, murdered on his boat in Fuerteventura. She then discovers that her father led a double life, since he belonged to a gang, in Galicia, which introduced drugs into the peninsula. To achieve her goals, the lawyer infiltrates a Galician cartel.
The Coke Clans : what is the Netflix series inspired by?
Series The Coke Clans covers several true stories that took place between the 1990s and 2000s in Galicia, an autonomous community located in the northwest of Spain. Operation Nécora is the event that most inspired the Netflix series. This operation, led by Judge Baltasar Garzón in 1990, targeted Galicia’s top drug traffickers, including Manuel Charlín Gama, a powerful drug lord. Several traffickers were arrested and imprisoned following this police operation. The arrest of these criminals was made possible in particular thanks to the declarations of Manuel Fernández Padín to the authorities, in exchange for protection.

The story of lawyer Tania Varela also inspired The Coke Clans. Just like Ana’s character, she wanted to avenge her father’s death. While infiltrating a criminal gang, she met David Pérez Lago, with whom she quickly became close. Although she escaped justice in this money laundering case, she still had to appear as a witness in an assassination case.
