Robin Gosens feels Fiorentina are ‘throwing away’ everything they did in the first part of the season, but believes staying ‘united’ and focusing on ‘positive thoughts’ is their only way out of a difficult situation.
Raffaele Palladino’s side looked to be in complete control of their match against Torino after the first 45 minutes, which saw the hosts break the deadlock and find themselves in numerical superiority after Ali Dembele was sent off.
Yet Gosens lamented that his team “disappeared” after the break, allowing the Granata to capitalize on a defensive distraction to score the equalizer and extend the Viola’s Serie A winless streak to six games, giving the Left-backs feel like the negative moments are affecting them “too much” at this stage of the campaign.
Gosens: Fiorentina must ‘stay together’ and ‘think positively’
“Obviously the atmosphere is not great,” Gosens said while speaking to DAZN after the home draw.
“We’re trying to understand the moment we’re in. We talked a lot during the week and felt like we prepared really well. We actually saw a very good Fiorentina in the first half, but unfortunately we disappeared in the second half.
“We feel like the negative moments are affecting us too much right now, and that’s not good.
“Of course we want to get out of this situation. Just a few weeks ago, we were having a very good season. Unfortunately, we are wasting all the good work we have done.
-“It’s time to stick together. It’s a simple and overused word, but we now have to prove it every week on the pitch, not just say it. We have to show that we want to start winning again, suffer together and stay together as a team, because only together can we get through a moment like this.
Gosens admitted that the “mental side” was becoming difficult to deal with as the repeated setbacks they have suffered in recent weeks are one way or another affecting their performances, which is why he urged his teammates to “think positively.”
“At some point the mental side becomes a key factor. Psychologically, it’s not easy to get rid of all the negative aspects,” the 30-year-old continued.
“When you win, everything seems easy, but in a difficult moment everyone has something to say, everything seems bleak and your mindset becomes crucial.
“We need to stay united and think positive, because positive thoughts also influence your legs and help you push harder. We are still in a good position in the rankings. We know this is a difficult time, but the only way to get through this is to face it together.
