The son of a victim couple, Nicolas Bodenhorst, launched an appeal on social networks, writing: “This Monday, January 6, my parents experienced a dramatic accident. The fire ravaged my parents’ house, losing everything they had: clothes, important documents, photos, and I’ll let you imagine the rest. Your messages, support and help will be welcome.”

And help quickly poured in, with the son posting a second message: “Many thanks for your support! We would like to express our gratitude for the valuable help you have already given us. Currently, we need men’s clothing in size XL (pants 44/46), shoes 44-45 and women’s clothing in size XL (pants 44/46), shoes 39-40 as well as some food for help us get through this difficult time. You can bring all this to Hannut by contacting me via Messenger. For my brother, clothing L, pants L and shoes size 43. My parents’ tenants also lost everything. Do not hesitate to contact them to help them. If you would like to support us further, donations are welcome to the following account: BE37 0018 6309 1528. Communication: fire assistance. Thank you very much for your generosity and solidarity.”

As for the neighboring tenant, she wants to keep hope until the end when it comes to her animals. “I am the occupant of the other apartment that exploded in Jandrain. As it was above the garage, so at the level of the explosion, I have very little hope… But I’m still making this post in case one of my babies survived. Which is improbable, I grant you. They are all chipped and my details are on their chip.”

These four animals are therefore missing in this apartment. These are two dogs and two cats. “The apartment is on the first floor and there was no exit door. The ground would have collapsed directly… So I have very little hope. In any case, I hope to find their bodies to give them a proper burial.”

This victim no longer knows where to turn in the face of this tragedy, as she indicates on social networks. “I don’t know where I am anymore. I have friends who are mobilizing, I have to call the insurance companies, see the scene of the tragedy, announce all this to my three and a half year old daughter. For the moment, she has clothes because friends have mobilized for her. As far as I’m concerned, it’s on hold but I know that my loved ones will find it quickly. I made a list for an emergency toiletry kit. I also have to see where we can stay…”
