A major fire destroyed two residences and five garages in Ferland Park, in Sept-Îles, during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Firefighters received a call around 3:40 a.m. for a fire in the garage of a residence on rue des Genêts.
Quickly, the strong winds caused two residences on rue des Marguerites-blanches and four other garages to fall prey to flames. Around fifteen other residences were evacuated as a safety measure.
Two other houses suffered damage, but are still habitable. The residents of the two burned homes were supported by the Red Cross.
Firefighters asked Hydro-Québec to cut power in the area of the fire, since many wires pass over the burned garages.
The Sept-Îles fire department is still on site. The cause of the blaze remains unknown.
