The man who died on Saturday after an accident near the pedestrian bridge over the Schijnpoortweg at the Sportpaleis has been identified. This is Dirk Van Tilt, 48 years old, organizer of the Winterhallen in Overijse, in Flemish Brabant, and member of the team at the Sportpaleis du Clouseau concerts.

Passersby noticed the body of a man on the Schijnpoortweg in Antwerp on Sunday morning, near the pedestrian bridge that connects the Sportpaleis to the Spoor Oost.

When help arrived, Dirk was already dead and resuscitation equipment could no longer help. Initially it seemed – due to the location – that the victim had fallen from the bridge, but the investigation now shows that this is probably not the case.

The deceased lived in Overijse, in Flemish Brabant. In his home community, he helped organize the festive event Winterhallen. The news of his unexpected death hits the co-organizers hard. “On this last day, we unfortunately received some very sad news that we are still processing ourselves,” the Facebook page reads. “We are doing this together in our familiar place of recent weeks… Out of respect, we will still be open this afternoon, but without representation and we will close at 7 p.m.”

Later.
