Davy Klaassen excluded… but allowed to finish the match

An unusual pass. Davy Klaassen (31), Ajax Amsterdam midfielder, was excluded while being allowed to remain on the field until his end. This took place during a friendly meeting between Ajax and Stuttgart (2-2), scheduled by the Dutch team to get its players back on track after a break of a week and a half. If the club usually schedules a small camp in the sun to revive the troops, this time the break was considered too short. Francesco Farioli, coach of Ajax, therefore opted for this opposition against the Germans.

Consultation between coaches and doctors

He was thus able to field his typical team a week before the return of the championship against RKC Waalwijk. But his plans were thwarted by a dangerous intervention from Davy Klaassen, sent off for involuntarily inflicting an involuntary sole on the heel of Atakan Karazor. A peculiar scene then occurred. Doctors and coaches from both camps then entered the field and consulted each other to arrive at the idea that Klaassen could continue the match despite his expulsion.

The player had previously apologized flatly for his involuntary action on Karazor. With one less element, this dress rehearsal would have been truncated according to the two teams who finally agreed to this snag in the regulations. It wasn’t the only one of the day since the match lasted… 105 minutes, as agreed before kick-off. No goals were scored during these additional fifteen minutes.

For the record, Stuttgart led 2-0 after 19 minutes of play before Ajax fell behind in the second period (52nd, 85th). Coached by former Niçois Francesco Farioli since last summer, Ajax are second in the Dutch championship, six points behind leader PSV Eindhoven. The team is 11th in the Europa League ahead of its last two matches against Riga and Galatasaray.
