Au 1is January 2022, theÎle-de-France account 12 380 964 habitantsconsolidating its status as the most populous region of France with 18% of the national population (excluding Mayotte). Since 2016, the region has recorded an average growth of 44,000 inhabitants per year, an annual increase of 0.36%.
Despite a slight slowdown compared to the 2011-2016 period (+0.44%), the Ile-de-France growth remains in line with that of the whole country (+0,35 %).
Île-de-France stands out for its young populationwith 39% of residents under 30 years old (compared to 35% nationally). This youth favors an excess of births over deaths, contributing to an increase of 0.77% per year, or four times more than the national average.
The Region is thus responsible for three quarters of the national natural balance. This growth is still hampered by a migratory deficit, with more departures than arrivals, reducing the population by 0.41% per year.
Essonne in line with regional trends
L’Essonnelike the majority of Ile-de-France departments outside Paris, is experiencing a constant growth of its population. Between 2016 and 2022, the department recorded a gain of more than 37,200 inhabitants, in line with regional trends.
If this figure remains lower to the increases observed in neighboring departments such as Yvelines or Hauts-de-Seineit reflects a certain attractiveness. Every year, new residents settle in the department. In one year, the population of Essonne has increased by more than 10,000 people, spread across 21 cantons and 194 communes.
All the cantons of Essonne show demographic growth, reflecting a homogeneous dynamics. However, attraction rates vary from city to city, with some showing greater increases than others.
