The evening of the 2025 Golden Globes dedicated several films such as “The Brutalist” and “Emilia Pérez”. Others may harbor some regrets, like “Dune” or “A Perfect Stranger”.
Tears, laughter and lots of thanks: this evening of the 2025 Golden Globes was full of emotion for the many guests present. If some left Los Angeles with joy and pride, others left disappointed.
This year, the film which won the most statuettes was the French masterpiece “Emilia Pérez”, which was awarded 4 awards. The film was acclaimed in the best musical or comedy film category, but also best foreign language film and was able to count on the performances of Zoe Saldana (best supporting actress and best original song with “El Mal”).
“The Brutalist” crushes the competition
In the main categories, it is “The Brutalist” which stands out, with three major titles. The film won the flagship category: best dramatic film of the year. Its main character, Laszlo Toth, won the title of best actor in a drama film for Adrien Brody. Finally, the title of best director went to Brady Corbet.
On television, it was “Shogun” who was able to hear his music three times during the evening. The series was crowned best drama series and made its two main stars shine: Hiroyuki Sanada as best actor in a drama series and Anna Sawai as best actress in a drama series. Finally, as best supporting role, Todanobu Asano was also awarded.
no individual reward for Jacques Audiard
Small disappointment for Jacques Audiard, author of “Emilia Pérez”, who did not win an individual award. Originally from Paris, the artist had already received three Césars for best director but received his first nomination for the Golden Globes.
The team behind “Dune: Part Two,” one of the biggest hits of 2024, left disappointed. Acclaimed by critics and by many big names in world cinema, the film, directed by Denis Villeneuve, did not win a single statuette after only being nominated in two categories: best dramatic film and best film music.
“Anora”, “A Perfect Stranger” and Luca Gadagnino not at the party
The film “Anora” is also one of the big losers of this ceremony. The film could, however, count on five nominations: best musical or comedy film, best direction, best actress in a musical or comedy film (Mikey Madison), best supporting actor (Youri Borissov) and best screenplay. So many categories that escaped the feature film directed by Sean Baker.
Probably annoyed by this frustrating evening, Luca Gadagnino, the Italian director of the film “Challengers” did not even take the time to listen to his rival’s acceptance speech and left the scene when his defeat was announced. The film, which was competing in four categories, won only best music, by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
Named in three of the main categories, “A complete stranger” left the ceremony without having seen his name mentioned. It was in the running for best dramatic film of the year and its actors Timothée Chalamet and Edward Norton were vying for the titles of best actor in a dramatic film and best supporting actor. They will hope to have more success during the next major cinema ceremony: the Oscars, on March 2, 2025.
