Due to the precipitation that has already fallen and that forecast for this Sunday, water levels across the country will increase during the day. It is for this reason that the flood forecast service entered Orange alert level at the beginning of the afternoon. The situation therefore indicates a risk of local flooding which could lead to local flooding and damage. The Luxembourg authorities invite the population to be vigilant. The notice concerns the entire country until Monday at 8 p.m.
The bad weather risk assessment unit (CERI) also met this afternoon to take stock of the situation.
The regions along the Alzette, and particularly the localities of Hesperange, Pfaffenthal, Mersch and Ettelbruck, have been placed on orange flood alert. “The precipitation of the last few hours and the thaw have led to an increase in the levels of the watercourses of the Alzette and the Sûre and they will continue to increase at least until this evening, or even until tomorrow for the Sûre” , specify the authorities. “Water levels on rivers in southern Luxembourg are currently increasing and will continue to increase until tomorrow morning. An excess of the “Orange vigilance rating” at the Alzette measuring stations is expected from this evening,” noted the authorities at the start of the evening. “Although the maximum water levels at most stations on the Alzette remain below the “red vigilance rating”, a temporary slight exceedance at the Ettelbrück station on the Alzette cannot be excluded.”
Water levels in northern Luxembourg also increased as expected this Sunday evening. In Diekirch sur la Sûre and Bollendorf, the “orange vigilance rating” was expected to be exceeded in the evening. “A drop in water levels is expected for Monday morning,” however, temper the authorities.
Météolux also warned the population of gusty winds throughout the day on Sunday. These, between 70 and 90 km/h, could even reach 100 km/h locally.
