The performer reprized the role in the West End at the Gillian Lynne Theater last year.
The Vivienne also took part in a winning season of the RuPaul franchise in the United States in 2022, and starred in the BBC Three show The Vivienne Takes On Hollywood in 2020.
In an Instagram postexternal The day after Christmas, The Vivienne published a series of photos, captioned: “24′ highlight”.
“What a year it’s been. It’s about reaching new heights and making dreams come true in 25 years,” the star wrote, before signing: “Long live xxx”.
Mr Jones said the words announcing Vivienne’s death were ones he “never wanted to write”.
“No one has ever made me laugh as much in my life as Viv. Their comic genius and quick wit were like no other,” he said.
“I am so proud and lucky that Viv has played such an important role in my life every day for the last 5 years.”
Mr Jones asked for the privacy of the star’s family and said no further details would be released at this time.
Fiona Campbell, the BBC’s head of youth audiences, described the news as “deeply sad”, adding: “We are extremely proud of The Vivienne’s achievements, including winning the first ever series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK .
“At this time, our thoughts are with their family and friends, the Drag Race fraternity and their many fans.”
