An intense winter storm has hit the eastern United States since Sunday, affecting more than 60 million Americans. Some areas are seeing the heaviest snowfall in a decade, with up to 61 centimeters expected.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warned the population of the risk of ice, snow and strong winds as well as temperatures sometimes reaching minus 25 ° C. Severe thunderstorms, hail and tornadoes are also expected in the Mississippi Valley.

State of emergency declared
Several states, including Missouri, Virginia and Arkansas, have declared states of emergency due to increased risks of power outages, impassable roads and falling trees.
