We see the impressive cast of the feature film, Paul Dano (The Batman, Prisoners, Okay), Michelle Williams (Venom, The Greastest Showman, Manchester by the sea) et Seth Rogen (Seduce me if you can, The Disaster Artist, Our worst neighbors). The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, where it caused a sensation. He will certainly be part of the race for Oscarsin 2023.
Our opinion on The Fabelmans :
Steven Spielberg’s duds are extremely rare and The Fabelmans confirms this rule. The master of the wonder and spectacular cinema is back with and unique tale, that of his own originsand in fact, of his own cinema. It is therefore, as many filmmakers of his generation have done in recent years, an autobiographical story. While Spielberg spent decades astonishing the entire planet with his works (AND the alien, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Jaws and many others), this time he shows what amazes him, and it is a much simpler thing: the light beam of a projector directed towards a canvas.
By exploring his own childhood, Steven Spielberg lifts the veil on the secrets of his cinema, the reasons why we find strong father and male figures. The young boy takes refuge in the cinema to escape his family which is falling apart, the anti-Semitism of which he is the victim in high school and his harassment in general. He escapes his life by completely abandoning himself to cinema and showing that all that matters is the emotion that what happens on the screen provides. When people watch the young man’s films, the filmmaker does not film the screen, but public reactions. Since the start of his career, this wonder is all that matters to Steven Spielberg, who here creates a work of both incredible gentleness and cruelty. It’s captivating.
