Saying bad things about Kanye West on social networks is obviously exposing yourself to harassment from the American rapper’s fans. In recent days, on X, a video of the controversial artist, sampling the song “Soleil Soleil” by the singer Pomme, generated numerous reactions from Internet users.

However, the main interested party was not made aware of this use, and she intends to oppose it. In a press release, she explains that she wants to “clarify a situation regarding a potential use” of her song by Kanye West. “I do not know the source of the video and audio content circulating these days on social networks, but I never gave my consent for the use of this sample.”

Pomme cites “reasons which seem obvious to (him)”: she is “in profound disagreement with the positions of this artist whom I have greatly admired in the past.” And specifies: “It is sometimes difficult to give up on certain opportunities, but I prefer to respect my deep values.

As a reminder, Kanye West has been at the center of numerous controversies in recent years: in addition to his rapprochement with the American extreme right, these numerous racist and anti-Semitic remarks or even the accusations according to which he allegedly placed his wife, Bianca Censori, and his ex -wife, Kim Kardashian, under surveillance. The rapper has also made anti-abortion remarks, been accused of sexual assault, and proclaimed his admiration for Adolf Hitler.

If Apple’s decision is completely understandable, given the values defended by the young artist since the start of her career, on the side of Kanye West fans, it is incomprehension. Despite his numerous controversies, the artist remains praised by his public, who does not hesitate to attack his detractors. Also, several of them decided to attack Apple for its decision.

Some criticize her “stupidity”, say that her choice will “ruin her career”, or that she has just “wasted her chance to break through internationally”. Others say that we must “separate the man from the artist”, a well-known statement often used to defend problematic personalities.

Many internet users have also accused the singer of having two-tiered values, given that her label is owned by controversial businessman Vincent Bolloré. Fortunately, the young artist also received messages of support, far outnumbering the insults.

For his audience, his refusal is completely understandable.
