Competition in the market for electric city cars priced at less than 30,000 euros is formidable. To cope with other manufacturers, Peugeot is dropping the price of its e-208. And the reduction is generous: we are talking about a reduction of 6,100 euros on the price of the Style version, an entry-level version, which is now at 28,000 euros.
- Peugeot cuts the price of its e-208 Style by 6,100 euros, bringing it to 28,000 euros to compete with models like the Renault 5 E-Tech
- The e-208 Style offers a 136 horsepower electric motor, a range of 363 km, and rich equipment including a 10-inch touch screen and driving aids
- Peugeot also faces Chinese competition with models like the BYD Atto 2, an electric SUV priced at 13,000 euros.
The goal is simple: stand up to the competitionnotably the Renault 5 E-Tech. Peugeot recorded 23,602 registrations in France last year for its electric e-208. That’s an increase of 4% from one year to the next. Except that if the first quarter was buoyant with 17,341 registrations, an increase of 44% driven by social leasing, the second half marked a slowdown. For what ? New, more accessible models have been launched.
The price of the electric Peugeot e-208 collapses by 6,100 euros
While hybrid models are much more popular than electric in France, a technology which has no future in Europe according to the CEO of Renault, the Peugeot e-208 in its Style version has a solid technical sheet for this price of 28,000 euros. The vehicle has a 136 horsepower electric motor and a 46.3 kWh battery for a range of 363 km in the combined cycle. Fast charging is done via a 100 kW DC charger.
In terms of standard equipment, this electric vehicle from Peugeot is also very solid. The Style version of the electric e-208 has a 10-inch touch screen, automatic air conditioning, electric and heated mirrors, reversing sensors, and a rain sensor. This model also includes lane keeping among the mandatory driving aids.
For the rest, Peugeot offers as standard an 11 kW bidirectional charger and a heat pump. Note that these are optional equipment offered by the car manufacturer for its Style version of the electric e-208.
Peugeot’s pricing offensive is not only aimed at national competition. The car manufacturer must manage the revolt of Chinese firms on the electricity marketnotably BYD which is launching its Atto 2: an electric SUV priced at 13,000 euros will be released here. Suffice to say a (very) aggressive price.
