HOSTAGES – “ Liri, if you can hear us… » After the video of one of the people kidnapped on October 7, 2023 during the attack of the Palestinian Islamist movement carried out in Israel from the Gaza Strip was broadcast by the armed wing of Hamas on Saturday January 4, the parents of the young woman, Liri Alberg, also spoke, as you can see in the video at the top of the article.

“We demanded from the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense that the negotiating team not return without an agreement,” explain to the camera Eli and Shira Alberg, the parents of the 19-year-old young woman. Liri Alberg was kidnapped while doing her military service at the Nahal Oz base in southern Israel, along with six other soldiers, five of whom are still held captive.

While Israel confirmed on Saturday the resumption of indirect negotiations with Hamas in Doha for the release of the hostages, the hostage’s parents said in a video message that they had “asked the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense that the team of negotiators not return (from Qatar) without an agreement”.

The same evening, during the weekly rally in Tel Aviv, demonstrators also demanded the release of the hostages. Since the start of the war, only one one-week truce has been observed, in November 2023, during which 105 hostages were released, as well as 240 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.

During the October 7 attack, which resulted in the death of more than 1,200 people on the Israeli side, the majority of them civilians according to a count based on official figures, 251 people were kidnapped. A total of 96 hostages remain in Gaza, 34 of whom were declared dead by the army.

The Israeli army launched an offensive in the Gaza Strip in retaliation. The Hamas government’s Health Ministry announced on January 5 that 88 Palestinians had been killed in the past 24 hours in the Gaza Strip, bringing the number of deaths in the Palestinian territory since the start of the war to 45,805.
