After two very successful editions, there is no doubt that Microsoft will attack this new year with a new Developer Direct. As in 2023 and 2024, the American manufacturer should therefore highlight between four and five games, mainly from Xbox Game Studios, to a presentation which should last a little over 40 minutes if we rely on previous editions.
After experimenting with the shadow drop with HiFi Rush in January 2023, Phil Spencer and his teams were wiser last year, while maintaining a desire to only show games coming within 12 months, with exceptions de Avowed which was postponed for scheduling reasons. It could also be that we find the game from Obsidian Entertainment, the release of which is still scheduled for February 18.
For the rest, we can expect to find South of Midnightwhose arrival should take place during the first half of the year. We’re not too worried about Doom: The Dark Ages as well, whose development seems particularly well advanced. We also imagine that the id Software teams have learned their lesson following the postponement of Doom Eternal which was finally released in 2020. We could see this also Towerborneavailable in Early Access on Steam since last September.
The main question mark concerns which game will be responsible for ending the year in style (apart from the new Call of Duty which should instead be revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase in June). If we could legitimately think that the new Fable could play this rolerumors of a postponement to 2026 should not be taken lightly. If this is the case, Microsoft should then bet on another title, possibly with Gears of War: E-Day, the release of which in 2025 was mentioned by Tom Warren.
We probably won’t have to wait long to find out what to expect since previous Developer Directs were announced during the second half of Januarybetween the 9th and the 11th. For the distribution, Microsoft had chosen January 25 for its first edition, then January 18 for its 2024 edition, with a time set at 9:00 p.m. in both cases. We should therefore not wait too long before knowing what Microsoft has in store for us for this year 2025 which promises to be very interesting for gamers, and in particular for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
