LeBron James is on the verge of breaking a major record, and it could happen this Friday when the Lakers take on the Atlanta Hawks.

LeBron James is defying the weight of time in a way that few athletes in history have managed to do. Now in his 22nd season in the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers winger continues to display performances that would make many 20-year-old players blush.

At 40 years old, having celebrated his birthday on December 30, LeBron shows no signs of slowing down. Indeed, “The King” is poised to surpass an iconic record long held by NBA legend Michael Jordan.

In his second game after turning 40, James showed that he had lost none of his brilliance, leading the Lakers to a 114-106 victory against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night.

The four-time MVP scored 38 points and delivered eight assists, benefiting from the support of youngster Max Christie, who recorded a personal best 28 points. The Lakers thus won their sixth victory in eight games.

A historic record within reach

This match also marked LeBron James’ 562nd game with at least 30 points, tying Michael Jordan’s record. The 20-time All-Star Game player will have the opportunity to surpass that all-time record in the Lakers’ next game against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday.

Impressive stats this season

This season, LeBron James is averaging 23.4 points, 8.9 assists and 7.7 rebounds per game. He also recorded eight triple-doubles, proving that he remains a pillar for his team and the game.

“I could play at this level for another 5-7 years”

During a chat with reporters on his birthday, LeBron James addressed the issue of retirement and said he could still play at a high level for several years.

“It won’t be because I can’t play at a high level anymore. It won’t be for that reason,” he said. “To be honest, if I really wanted to, I could probably play at this level for another – it’s strange to say – but another five to seven years, if I wanted to,” added the 40-year-old.
