Robin Montgomery won two sets to zero (6-4, 6-4) against Bernarda Pera and qualified for the semi-finals of the WTA 250 in Auckland on Thursday night. The 20-year-old American was very solid on her faceoffs, making 13 aces and winning 83% of the points behind her first ball.

Montgomery, 117th WTA player in the world, will face the winner of the match between American Madison Keys, seeded No. 1, and Danish Clara Tauson, seeded No. 5 in the semi-finals. The match was interrupted by rain while the Dane led one set to nothing and was trailing 4-3 in the second.

Robin Montgomery had dismissed the Japanese lucky loser Mai Hontama (6-3, 2-6, 6-0) and the Japanese qualifier Nao Hibino without being worried about the score (6-2, 6-2).

Bernarda Pera won against the Andorran qualifier Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva (6-2, 7-5), and against the Canadian Rebecca Marino (7-6 [2]6-4).
