Urfan Sharif, recently sentenced to life in prison in London for torturing and killing his daughter Sara, was attacked by two inmates at Belmarsh prison, the British daily “The Sun” reported on Friday. The two men attacked Urfan Sharif, 43, on 1is January with the sharp lid of a can of tuna, cutting him in the face and neck, the tabloid said.
Sara, a 10-year-old Anglo-Pakistani girl, died of beatings in August 2023 after years of mistreatment, the details of which, revealed at the trial, shocked the British.
London police have confirmed they are investigating the attack on a “43-year-old prisoner, whose injuries are not life-threatening” at Belmarsh high security prison, south-east of London. A prison administration spokesperson also confirmed the attack on a prisoner, without identifying him.
Sara Sharif’s father and stepmother, Beinash Batool, aged 30, were both sentenced to life in prison in London in mid-December for the girl’s murder. The trial of these torturers shocked the United Kingdom, both because of the violence inflicted on Sara and because of the missed opportunities that could have saved her.
“It is not an exaggeration to describe what the little girl endured as torture,” the judge declared, recalling one by one the unbearable abuse inflicted on her.
Sara’s uncle, Faisal Malik, 29, who lived with the couple in Woking (south-west London), was sentenced to 16 years in prison for “causing or making possible her death”.
