Superb Gregor Deschwanden! The Horw jumper had one of the best days of his career when he took second place in the New Year’s competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In Bavaria, the Lucernois flew to 138 and 140.5 meters only to be beaten by the Austrian Daniel Tschofenig. Thanks to this second place, Gregor Deschwanden climbs to his sixth podium in the World Cup. Above all, he took 4th place in the Tournée des Quatre Tremplins, after having already finished 6th in Oberstdorf.
Already third after the first round, Gregor Deschwanden managed to confirm during his second jump, despite a rather unfavorable wind and a waiting period before his attempt. He is now 13.6 points behind the leader of the Tour, the Austrian Daniel Tschofenig. Jan Hörl is 2nd and Stefan Kraft 3rd. Note that the Große Olympiaschanze record was beaten this Wednesday by another Austrian, Michael Hayböck (finally 3rd), thanks to a crazy first jump from 145 meters.
Fifteenth in qualifying, Killian Peier missed his first jump (117 meters). The Vaudois still managed to qualify for the second round and took 30th place in the final, with a second takeoff at 130 meters. Felix Trunz (31st, 130 meters) narrowly missed qualifying.
