The Russian Daria Kasatkina, seeded n°3, qualified for the round of 16 of the Brisbane tournament, beating the American Peyton Stearns, not without difficulty, two sets to one (7-6 [7]4-6, 7-5). The fight lasted 3h23, including a third and final round of 1h31 in which the two players could not decide between themselves.
Kasatkina, world No. 9 at the WTA, will face fellow qualifier Polina Kudermetova in the round of 16 of the Queensland tournament.
Stearns, ranked 47th in the WTA, had dominated the Russian Veronika Kudermetova without being worried by the score (6-2, 6-3), during the previous round of the Brisbane Open.
