An incorrect display on Google Maps indicates that the access road to the Mörlialp ski area is closed. Now the incorrect ad has finally been corrected after complaints from the operator and a report from “Blick”.

  • The access road to the Mörlialp ski area was shown as closed on Google Maps, although it is not.
  • All attempts to report the error to Google have failed.
  • After the “Blick” report, the mapping service finally reacted.

The operators of the Mörlialp ski area in the canton of Obwalden can be happy. Google Maps had incorrectly recorded the access road to the ski area as closed, even though the route was clear and easily navigable. The online mapping service finally responded and corrected the error.

According to the chairman of the board of directors, Simon Furrer, the error had existed for several years. “I don’t expect us to incur any losses because of this,” Furrer says.

The closure of the scenic route on Google Maps is now lifted, which Furrer notes with relief. The cause of the incorrect display remains unclear. Contact with Google was difficult: “We reported the error, but received no response,” reports Furrer. The “Blick” editorial team, which reported this false statement in an article, was also only able to contact Google’s voice robot.
