Poland has officially taken over the presidency of the Council of the European Union for a period of six months, succeeding Hungary. This assumption of office marks the start of a mandate which will extend until July 1, 2025, in accordance with the six-monthly rotation system in force between EU member states. According to information reported by Anadolu and translated by Sanaa Amir, Poland is orienting its presidency on the theme “Security for Europe”.

Faced with the challenges posed by the Russo-Ukrainian conflict and tensions with Belarus, Warsaw wishes to breathe new life into European defense policy. The Polish government places emphasis on increasing military spending by other member countries and strengthening the European Union’s defense sector.

At the same time, Poland plans to respond to migration and security issues affecting the EU’s external borders. Measures are being considered to combat illegal immigration and improve refoulement procedures. She accuses Belarus of manipulating migratory flows as part of a hybrid conflict, and intends to intensify the fight against disinformation while reducing the EU’s energy dependence.

The Polish presidency, relayed by Anadolu, must prepare to pass the torch to Denmark on July 1, 2025, at the end of its mandate.
