Who says new year, says chaos in daily life. From January 1, 2025, many new features await the residents of Lyon and its metropolis.
Mobility, Low Emission Zone and driving bans, public transport prices, arrival of the RATP… We take stock of the changes that affect your daily life in 2025.
The arrival of the RATP, a first in Lyon
From January 1, the Lyon public transport network (TCL) is changing its organization even if users should not see the difference. For the first time in its history, Sytral Mobilités is entrusting the operation of the transport network to two different and competing operators.
RATP, via its development subsidiary, will thus operate the management of the metro, tram lines, the Rhônexpress to the airport, funiculars and future river shuttle lines on the Saône.
The historic operator Keolis will continue to operate buses and trolleybuses, the smallest part of the network pie.
For the user, nothing changes: the network brand remains “TCL”, so does the ticketing and it is Sytral Mobilités which will directly manage traveler information, subscriptions and customer relations for the entire network.
TCL and Rhonexpress prices increasing from January 1
As of January 1, TCL prices are changing for single tickets and subscriptions with a price increase planned. The price of Rhônexpress tickets, the shuttle to Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport, is also increasing.
Next September, “unified” pricing will come into force throughout the Rhône department with the merger of the TCL, Libellule and Cars du Rhône networks.
The ZFE extends to Crit'Air 3 vehicles
As of January 1, 2025, the restrictions of the Low Emission Zone (ZFE) of the Lyon Metropolis extend to Crit'Air 3 vehicles.
This concerns petrol and hybrid vehicles between 1997 and 2005, diesel between 2006 and 2010, between mid-2004 and 2006 for motorcycles and mopeds.
Changes in water prices in Greater Lyon
From January 1, 2025, residents and businesses in Greater Lyon will pay their water bills with progressive rates in installments.
A free share will be applied to all individuals and aid will reduce the bills of the most precarious.
New prices and arrival of the electric Vélo’v
From January 1, a new price list for Vélo'v comes into effect with an increase in the price of the subscription.
Starting this month, from January 29, 2025, the new self-service electric bike with integrated battery will be put into service in the metropolis. A revolution after the failure of the electric bike with removable battery.
Other changes are also to be expected in 2025 in the daily life of Lyonnais, but later in the year: establishment of the Limited Traffic Zone on the Presqu'île in June, entry into service of the new TCL river shuttles as well in June, opening in the spring of the new Part-Dieu station square after years of work…
