More than 80 vehicles, mainly cars, were burned in the Lyon metropolitan area during New Year's Eve, marked by urban violence.
In Rillieux-la-Pape, where 12 vehicles fell prey to the flames, “there are strong suspicions of insurance fraud”, indicated in our columns the councilor, Alexandre Vincendet (Horizons), the day after the events.
Although it is impossible to determine what proportion of cars burned, with a view to compensation, the argument was taken up by one of the few individuals arrested and suspected of having lit fires during the night.
Tens of thousands of cars banned from driving
He claimed, in police custody, to have been paid by a third party to destroy his vehicle, a Crit'Air 3, which was to be banned from driving in the low-emission zone (ZFE) of Lyon, from 1is January 2025.
Tens of thousands of owners of Crit'air 3 vehicles, in the territory of the Lyon ZFE, risk a fine of €68, barring exemptions, if they get behind the wheel this year, in Lyon, Caluire-et- Cook, on the M6, the M7, the North ring road, as well as in Villeurbanne, Bron and Vénissieux inside the Laurent-Bonnevay ring road.
The Crit'Air 3, 4 and 5, now banned in the Lyon ZFE, are diesels from before 2011 or gasoline engines from before 2006.
