Today, January 1, 2025, we observe a gradual drop in fields in our region, with a continued strengthening of the wind ahead of the disturbance which will reach the north at the end of the afternoon.
The sky is overcast and dry. The southwest wind strengthened last night and this morning, gusts reach 50 km/h at 70 km/h inland and 70 km/h at 90 km/h on the coasts. On the capes, it can locally blow at more than 100 km/h.
This afternoon, the disturbance linked to the depression present in the north of Scotland approaches our coasts late in the afternoon. It brings with it sustained rains which sweep the region before evacuating from the south-east the next night. The sky remains overcast until this disturbance arrives.
At the rear there is a skylight. The wind follows the trace of the front to the ground in the form of a thick band. Gusts are around 60 km/h to 80 km/h, or locally 90 km/h. Behind, the wind weakens and reaches values of around 40 km/h à 60 km/h.
The minimums are close to 1°C to 3°C in Aisne, Avesnois and eastern Oise. 3°C to 5°C are expected elsewhere, in the interior, and 6°C to 7°C on the coast.
The maximums are around 9°C to 12°C on average.
Then, to be specified the following night, but small snowfalls may occur on the Aisne. Then, on this day of THURSDAYwe have sunshine through the few showers which affect the region. The wind is weak to moderate from the northwest, and it is 4°C to 7°C.
Fridayit is cold and dry, but sunny weather. There may be a risk of refreezing of soils still wet from the previous day’s rainy episodes. Under weak to moderate winds, the minimums are between -3°C and 0°C inland, 1°C to 3°C on the coast. The maximums are close to 3°C and 6°C.
Then a depression circulates over the north of the British Isles, bringing an active warm front from the southwest of France and chasing colder air masses from the northeast.
The day of SATURDAY is therefore without challenges, apart from managing the condition of the roadways in the morning. After midday, the weather is cloudy and dry. In the morning it is -2°C to 1°C then 8°C to 10°C afterwards.
This Wednesday, January 1, 2025, maintaining weather conditions identical to yesterday should make it possible to maintain moderate concentrations. Air quality is therefore average in Hauts-de-France with ozone as the main pollutant.
