The year 2025 has already arrived in some countries. Here is the progress of this evening full of emotions which takes place all around the globe.

At 11 p.m. Eastern Time, the province of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick followed Newfoundland and Labrador and celebrated the New Year.

Elsewhere in America, Venezuela, Bolivia, the territory of Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and 25 other countries have moved to 2025.

At 10:30 p.m., the countdown to midnight rang in the first province of Canada. This was the case for Newfoundland and Labrador, whose time zone is located about thirty minutes before the neighboring provinces of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

“The countdown is on across the country,” declared Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on his X account. Whether you are at home or abroad with homesickness, the year 2025 will bring new challenges and new opportunities. But one thing is certain: our country is strong and free, and we are proud of our home. Happy New Year, Canada.”

As of 10 a.m. Eastern Time, most of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Guyana and parts of Chile have moved to 2025.

As the last day of 2024 quietly crossed the Atlantic Ocean, most of Greenland and some states in Brazil declared the new year at 9 p.m. Quebec time.

An hour earlier, at 8 p.m., it was Cape Verde which made the jump to 2025.

At 7 p.m. Quebec time, the United Kingdom, Portugal and Iceland are among the last European countries to welcome the year 2025.

“Wishing you and your loved ones a very Happy New Year,” UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on his X account.

At the same time, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Ghana and 19 other countries also moved to 2025.

At 6 p.m. Eastern time, it was the turn of Germany, Italy, Belgium and to turn the page to 2024 to start the new year.

“For 2025, I wish us to be united, determined and fraternal,” wrote French President Emmanuel Macron earlier in the evening on his X account.

Hundreds of thousands of people gathered on the Champs-Élysées to celebrate the New Year.

The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, also wished the German people a Happy New Year.

“We are a united country. Even when times are tough, we all feel it. Many are wondering what will happen next. My response: With respect, trust, interest and commitment to each other, we can make 2025 a good year,” he mentioned in his statement.

But it’s not just these large European countries that have moved to 2025 at this time. This is also the case of Nigeria, Algeria and Morocco.

In total, 46 countries said goodbye to 2024 at 6 p.m., according to information from CNN.

At 5 p.m. Quebec time, the first Western European countries celebrated the arrival of 2025, including Greece, Romania and Ukraine, among others. Egypt, Lebanon and Rwanda also completed the famous countdown until midnight.

At 4 p.m., churches in Moscow, Russia, rang their midnight bells. Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kenya and around 15 other countries celebrated the arrival of the new year.

Russian President Vladimir Putin took the opportunity to deliver a long speech to the nation.

“Dear citizens of Russia, dear friends,” he began by saying. In a few minutes, the new year 2025, which marks the end of the first quarter of the 21st century, will begin. In Russia, this period was marked by many events, some of them large-scale and historically significant. We set big goals for ourselves and we achieved them. Time and time again, we overcame challenges because we were united. This is how our unity, our faith in ourselves and in our strengths, in our abilities, was strengthened.”

It was 3 p.m. in our province when Dubai celebrated the arrival of the new year in style, as did the whole of the United Arab Emirates, but also Azerbaijan, Armenia, Oman and most of Georgia.

At 2 p.m. Quebec time, Pakistan, most of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Taijikistan and the Maldives notably celebrated the start of the new year. Afghanistan, for its part, made its transition to the year 2025 at 2:30 p.m., Quebec time.

India and Sri Lanka celebrated the New Year at 1:30 p.m. Quebec time. 15 minutes earlier, Nepal also marked the start of 2025.

At 1 p.m. Quebec time, Bangladesh, part of Kazakhstan, Kygyzstan and Bhutan bid farewell to 2024.

At the stroke of midnight in Bangkok, but midday in Quebec, Thailand in turn marked the passing of the new year. Half an hour later, Myanmar also entered 2025.

At 11 a.m. Quebec time, China also took the plunge into the new year, with the traditional fireworks display near the Victoria Bridge in Hong Kong. Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and part of Indonesia also joined in 2025.

At 8 a.m. Quebec time, Australia celebrated the arrival of the New Year in style with fireworks, a ceremony and a show notably featuring British singer Robbie Williams, in metropolitan Sydney.

A tribute to indigenous nations was also on the menu.

At 7 a.m. Quebec time, the new year arrived in several Pacific countries such as Tuvalu and the Marshall Islands, in addition to eastern Russia.

Most of New Zealand, including metropolitan Auckland, arrived in 2025 at 6 a.m. Quebec time.

It was Kiritimati, also nicknamed Christmas Island, which was the first to welcome 2025 at 5 a.m. Quebec time.
