Unveiled during The Game Awards 2024 ceremony, Elden Ring Nightreign will be the next title in the FromSoftware and the latter will offer major changes compared to the studio's other games which are not necessarily unanimous among fans although it is only a spin-off. Among the points that make people cringe, we find the choice to offer a randomization of the cards, but this choice was explained by Junya Ishizakithe game director, duringan interview with the media IGN.

Randomization in Elden Ring Nightreign

Elden Ring Nightreign is based on a cycle system lasting 3 days where your objective will be to beat a boss by traveling through the Limgrave region, located in a parallel universe to that ofElden Ringin order to gain experience as well as equipment in order to progress. However, you will not particularly know what you will come across because certain elements present will be random in each game.

Among the latter, we find:

  • The enemies.
  • Weapons.
  • Bosses (apart from the final boss).
  • Points of interest.
  • Key points like campfires or castles.
  • The events that will be triggered.

But for what reason(s) did the studio choose to put randomization in the game? This is what we will see now.

Why do cards have a random component in Elden Ring Nightreign?

Having made this choice in a game that wants to offer a condensed RPG experience through rather short games is something that can avoid the weariness that can arise from always following the same process. Indeed, the fact that elements appear randomly as you progress allows you to appreciate the title at each session while still having an element of surprise while exploringbecause you won't know what to expect. It is also on this aspect that the game director emphasizes when he was questioned about the evolution of the map.

These elements are meant to encourage repeat play while changing sessions each time.
