Novak Djokovic, absent from the 2023 Australian Open, is the big favorite for the 2024 edition. The Serbian will aim for a 25th Grand Slam title, an absolute record. But the competition looks set to be tough…
After a year 2023 marked by his absence at the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic is already establishing himself as the man to beat for the 2024 edition of the first Grand Slam of the season. The Serbian, who will be aiming for a historic 25th major title, will be keen to prove that he remains the undisputed master of world tennis.
A long-awaited return
Left out of the Australian Open in 2023 due to his refusal to be vaccinated against Covid-19, Djokovic had to watch from afar the sacre of Rafael Nadalhis great rival. A heartbreak for the Serbian, who had won in Melbourne during the three previous editions.
Its return in 2024 is therefore most anticipated. Nole, who will then be 36 years old, remains on exceptional performance during the second part of the 2023 season, including victories at Wimbledon and the US Open. Enough to place it in big favorite for the Australian Open, a tournament he has already won 9 times, a record.
The quest for the absolute record
But beyond the victory, it is a historic record that Djokovic will aim for in Melbourne. With 24 Grand Slam titles, the Serbian currently equals Margaret Court’s record. A 25th coronation would therefore make him the most successful player in the history of Majors, men and women combined.
Winning this 25th Grand Slam, becoming the most successful player of all time, this is clearly my number 1 goal for 2024.
Novak Djokovic
An immense challenge, enormous pressure, but the Serb has proven time and again his ability to raise your level in major events. It remains to be seen whether he will manage to tame the Rod Laver Arena court and reconquer his Australian throne.
Sharp competition
Because despite his status as favorite, Djokovic will have to be wary of a particularly strong competition. His long-time rival Rafael Nadal, if he manages to recover from his physical problems, will try to defend his title. The young guns on the circuit, led by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, will also have their say.
Without forgetting Daniil Medvedev, finalist in 2022 and 2023, Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, also declared candidates for final victory. The battle is coming intense and indecisive.
The path to legend
In case of victory in Melbourne, Novak Djokovic would mark the history of its sport a little more. Already considered by many to be the greatest player of all time, the Serbian would add one more line to his XXL record. A perspective that motivates him to the highest degree.
I’m still hungry for victories, I want to continue to push my limits. This record of Grand Slam titles is what makes me get up in the morning to go train.
Novak Djokovic
Revengeful after his forced absence in 2023, driven by the desire to make history, Djokovic has everything big favorite for the 2024 edition of the Australian Open. The response will begin in a few weeks, on the courts of Melbourne Park, for what is already shaping up to be one of the major events of the upcoming tennis season.
