Gabriel Bortoleto had an intense F2 season, at the end of which he emerged champion despite his rookie status. As in F3, he is pleased with the intense work that had to be done to achieve these two consecutive crowns.
“It hasn't been easy. The team, my teammates and I have worked a lot. With Trident in F3 and Invicta in F2, I don't know how many simulator hours we spent in those two years” Bortoleto said.
“It's not a coincidence and I think it's now the result of hard work on my part and that of the teams. I was part of two teams that had strong engineers and mechanics.”
“Everyone has worked hard to achieve these results, and I think consistency has been one of the greatest qualities over these F3 and F2 seasons. We have always been able to be fast. That helps a lot of being consistent, scoring points regularly and being in the best fights.”
His rise in power allowed him to make up for a disappointing start to the season: “We started the year in a difficult position, we didn't score many points. At Monza I think I was 38 points behind Hadjar, and I made my only qualifying mistake of the 'year.”
“We scored points in the sprint, then we won the Feature Race starting from last place. I thought afterwards that it was time to change things. Then we went to Baku and I I took the lead in the championship.”
Bortoleto was more serene at the end of the season, after the two-month break from the Formula 2 championship. If he was still chasing the title, which he finally won, he already had his future assured.
“I think the break was beneficial for me. The negotiations were over for the last two weekends and I was already announced, but in Monza and Baku we were still discussing, so it was uncertain. times when performance was very important.”
“Mattia was very, very good, he knew we were fast and we had the opportunity to do a good job together. With the results I was getting in F2, it was clear to us that we were progressing, and the season had been good. With each race, I improved as a driver and we did our job better.
“In Qatar and Abu Dhabi there was less pressure after getting the contract, but the pressure to win was still there, to win the Formula 2 championship, that pressure was still there.”
