Max Verstappen has spoken out about his relationship with Formula 1 rival Lando Norris, referring to them as “idiots” on social media.
The Red Bull and McLaren stars clashed in an intense championship rivalry during the 2024 season, putting their friendship to the test off-track.

As Norris closed in on Verstappen in the standings, the two drivers increasingly found themselves at the center of on-track battles, leading to controversies in Austria, Austin and Mexico.
During this last race, Verstappen earned two ten-second time penalties for his racing tactics directed at Norris, where he forced the McLaren star off the track.
Verstappen addresses F1 rivalry with Norris
Following their incident in Mexico, Norris criticized Verstappen calling his tactics “dangerous”, expressing dissatisfaction with his driving style.
Although some feared their rivalry on the track would jeopardize their friendship, Verstappen clarified that their relationship is good, indicating that “idiots” on social media tend to make things worse.
“People always make things worse on social media,” Verstappen said on the Talking Bull podcast.
“There are a lot of idiots on this platform. They always have something to say or complain.”
