the essential
Flutist and conductor, Maryse Chacon retired after 42 years of teaching at the Lavelanet music school which she directed for 30 years, training more than 600 flautists.
The Philharmonic Society’s Christmas concert had a special flavor for Maryse Chacon, who was asserting her retirement rights. Several tributes were paid to him during this evening. Franck Farez, representing the municipality, thanked her “for everything you have given for music in Lavelanet”. Her musician friend Florence Calvet continued with great emotion: “During her long career, Maryse trained more than 600 flautists. We will remember you for your many skills and your human qualities.”
Maryse Chacon’s career lasted 42 years. Forty-two years of teaching flute and music theory. She has also conducted orchestras, flute ensembles and music workshops. “I also did musical interventions in nursery and primary schools,” she added. “I spent thirty years directing the Lavelanet music school, a school where I myself learned my first notes. A school which today bears the name of its founder, René Allabert, my darling dad,” she added. And we must not forget the twelve years spent on other missions at Lavelanet town hall.
Between children and musicians
She in turn thanked all the people she met throughout her professional life: “A big thank you to my fellow musicians. Together, we shared unforgettable moments, memorable concerts and challenges that we overcame with success. Your dedication to teaching and music, your talent, your passion and your kindness have contributed to the influence of our music school. Thank you to all of my students. of this energizing musical universe. Thanks to them I had strength, joy, I felt useful.”
She did not forget the many elected officials she met during all these years, and mainly those elected to culture. “Your support and your commitment to musical education have been decisive for the development and sustainability of our school. Recent examples of brilliant successes of students, who started their learning at the Lavelanet music school, are the proof,” she concluded.
We join all Lavelanetians in thanking her and wishing Maryse a long and happy retirement.
