For decades, the WIENER PHILHARMONIKER have been presenting their audiences with a cheerful and lively program from the rich repertoire of the Strauss dynasty and their contemporaries at the turn of the year. Riccardo Muti, a close artistic confidant and decades-long companion of the Vienna Philharmonic, will be at the podium for the New Year's Concert in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Music Association on January 1, 2025. Together with the orchestra, Maestro Muti also took a new look at the compositional environment of the Strauss family when selecting the program. With a waltz by Constanze Geiger, a composition by a woman will be performed for the first time at the New Year's Concert. The two ballet interludes, danced by the Vienna State Ballet, are all about the musical ruler of the year 2025: Waltz King Johann Strauss, son who was born in Vienna 200 years ago. Michael Beyer, who is also responsible for the live broadcast of the New Year's concert, once again took over the direction of the images. The ballet costumes come from the British costume designer and universal artist Patrick Kinmonth, the choreography from the renowned choreographer and new ballet director of the Zurich Ballet Cathy Marston. The live commentary for the concert will be provided by Teresa Vogl.
