New Year's concert from the music association welcomes the year 2025

On Wednesday from 11:15 a.m. in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein, the Vienna Philharmonic will welcome the virgin year 2025 with the New Year's Concert. Maestro Riccardo Muti will be leading the major event for the seventh time. The program focuses on the works of Johann Strauss Sohn. The anniversary would have celebrated its 200th birthday this year. Eight pieces written by the Waltz King are scheduled – not including the traditional encore of the “Danube Waltz”.

At the same time, for the first time in history, the work of a female composer will be heard at the New Year's Concert. The “Ferdinandus Waltz” by Strauss's contemporary Constanze Geiger represents the first delicate step towards programmatic gender parity. As always, not only the guests in the Musikverein can experience this historical moment: ORF is broadcasting the concert event for the 67th time: from 11.15 Teresa Vogl reports on ORF 2, with the broadcast from Vienna being seen in almost 100 countries. In addition, Ö1 will broadcast the concert live on the radio.
