Like every year, New Year's Eve was marked by incidents in the metropolitan area of Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin).
According to a police source, more than 60 vehicles were set on fire on the night of Tuesday December 31, 2024 to Wednesday January 1, 2025. A figure close to last year when 59 cars were burned.
44 arrests for urban violence
According to Sylvain André, departmental secretary of the Alliance Police Nationale 67 union, “the system put in place made it possible to have a relatively well contained New Year« .
In addition to the sixty cars burned, 44 arrests took place during the night of the transition to the year 2025, mainly for violence against the guardian of public order and damage.
No police officers injured
This urban violence was not restricted to certain districts of Strasbourg but “generalized across the entire urban area”, specifies Mr. André.
If the police came under numerous mortar fire, “ no police officers were injured“, he concludes.
