The Plaisir de Lire association was proud to recently welcome Lydie Salvayre to the Émile Mathieu media library, winner of the 2014 Goncourt Prize for her novel Don’t cryr published by Editions du Seuil.
Lydie Salvayre has long combined her work as a child psychiatrist with that of writing before retiring and devoting herself solely to writing. She describes herself as a curious woman who is not only a feminist but who is at the same time feminist, writer, doctor… She wants to be (“like we all are”, she specifies) multiple. This meeting was an opportunity for the writer to present his latest work We have always loved Sundays also published at Le Seuil and to discuss with the large audience about her writing work, her inspirations, her taste for satire that she discovered through the texts of Jonathan Swift.
She shared some titles that delighted her like The Devil’s Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce, very effective outrageous and satirical texts: “Satirists tell an often bitter truth without being punished thanks to the weapon of laughterre” specifies the writer.
The questions from the public were numerous and varied and Lydie Salvayre then stayed for a long time to sign various books sold by La Librairie de la place aux herbes d’Uzès.
Reading Night will take place on January 25
As for the Plaisir de Lire association, it was delighted by the obvious interest generated by this meeting at the media library.
Rose Martin, its president, explained that Lydia Salveyre came to Domazan following a meeting between a couple of members and the author at a book fair in Barjac.
Furthermore, the association organizes once a month a moment of literary exchanges as part of the reading club. This is followed by around twenty people and “fruitful exchanges are of a fairly high content” according to Rose Martin.
Furthermore, Plaisir de lire offers all children attending school in Domazan a moment to read stories, once every six weeks and throughout the school year. These readings are offered to schools from Kindergarten to Middle Years 2.
In addition to these two regular activities, the association offers calligraphy workshops and cultural outings to its members.
This year again, it will organize Reading Night which will take place on January 25.
