The multiple projects implemented in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, thanks to the new development model for the southern provinces launched in 2015 by HM King Mohammed VI, open a promising perspective for a region destined to become an economic hub. and leading investment and a true regional and international hub.

In terms of infrastructure, several strategic projects are progressing at a sustained pace, notably the Dakhla Atlantique port, whose work is progressing by 26%. This port structure aims to become a major maritime hub in Africa, connecting the continent to international markets.

The same goes for the Dakhla seawater desalination station, whose work progress rate exceeds 57%. This innovative project, entirely powered by wind energy, will offer a green solution in terms of drinking water supply and irrigation.

Concerning road infrastructure, the mega project of the Tiznit-Dakhla Expressway (1,055 km) which is in its final phase and whose implementation cost amounts to approximately 10 billion dirhams, constitutes a structuring lever for economic development and social of the southern provinces of the Kingdom, especially since it will constantly strengthen the economic and commercial links between Morocco and its African depth.

In terms of events, the city of Dakhla has further consolidated its position as a destination of choice for the organization of prestigious events and reinforced its status as a high place for debates on issues linked to the future of the Africa.

Thus, the pearl of the South hosted, during the year 2024, several major events, bringing together eminent personalities from the diplomatic, economic and cultural worlds, including the 7th edition of the “Morocco Today Forum”, the forum African fishing and aquaculture industry “Seafood 4 Africa 2024” and the 4th edition of the annual MD Sahara Forum.

In the cultural aspect, Dakhla experienced, during the year 2024, a strong dynamic of the cultural landscape thanks to a series of cultural and artistic events, on a local, national and international scale, in this case the 12th edition of the Dakhla International Film Festival and the 14th edition of the Regional Book and Publishing Fair.

On the diplomatic level, the year 2024 was marked by the inauguration of the Consulate General of the Republic of Chad, and the holding of the work of the 3rd session of the Morocco-Gambia joint cooperation commission.

Likewise, Dakhla welcomed, over the past year, several foreign delegations and investors who came to explore investment opportunities and see first-hand the development dynamics in the southern provinces of the Kingdom.

The health and care offer in the region is not left out, it has been strengthened by the opening of the Mohammed VI University of Sciences and Health (UM6SS), under the Mohammed VI Foundation of Sciences and Health, and the commissioning of the International Clinic of Dakhla, as well as five urban and rural health centers in the province of Oued Eddahab.

In the sporting field, Dakhla seems to be more than ever reinforced in its status as a world-class destination for different sporting disciplines, by successfully hosting several competitions including the 9th edition of “Dakhla Downwind Challenge”, the 2nd edition of the Intercontinental Cup. of padel, and the 1st edition of the national and international sport fishing competition, as well as the 14th Kitesurf World Cup and the 3rd of Wingfoil.

The strong development dynamic experienced by the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region testifies to the tireless efforts made by all stakeholders to make it a true hub of exchange between Africa and Europe and the main gateway to Africa.
