After Sölden at the end of October, Federica Brignone won the Semmering Giant this Saturday. In Austria, the Italian notably beat Sara Hector and Alice Robinson. The only Frenchwoman in the second round, Clara Direz experienced a mishap.
Federica Brignone finally has her first success in Semmering. Indeed, unable to do better than 4th (in 2022) in the past (in six Giants there), the Italian this time managed to win this Saturday. In the lead after the 1st round, the native of Milan then set the 2nd time in the 2nd round and therefore won the Semmering Giant. The 2nd of the season, after that of Sölden at the end of October. “It wasn’t an easy second round, but I really wanted this first podium here in Semmering. I felt very good today, I really wanted to fight, but I was relaxed,” explained the 34-year-old skier, after her victory, on Eurosport. On arrival, Brignone beat the Swede Sara Hector (at 0”57) and the New Zealander Alice Robinson (at 0”90)who completely made the podium.
Direz fell at the finish
Second, 0”15 behind Brignone this morning, Lara Gut-Behrami subsequently failed to confirm and had to settle for 9th place. A big disappointment for the Swiss. For her part, Camille Rast, wearing the red bib as overall leader of the World Cup, finished 17th in the Summering Giant. As for the French, only Clara Direz managed to qualify for the 2nd round.
