Indian star bowler, jasprit bumrahgot the better of young Australian opener Sam Konstas on Sunday, December 29, and ended it all with an unusual celebration after his success. He removed Konstas in the seventh over of Australia’s second innings, sparking enthusiasm among Indian fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Konstas, who had largely dominated the Indian bowling line with aggressive bowling in the first innings, failed to replicate his exploits, and his stumps were disturbed by Bumrah.

In a vibrant reaction, Bumrah turned to the MCG crowd, inviting them to applaud. Watch the video here:

This gesture by Bumrah echoed the provocations of Konstas on the third day when the latter had tried to galvanize the spectators while he was stationed near the touchline.

“Fast bowlers have a good memory,” Gavaskar had said about that moment on the field.

Konstas, although brilliant in his first innings with a score of 61 in just 65 balls, this time seemed more reserved and less bold after losing his wicket. With this elimination, Bumrah now has 26 wickets in the series.

Elsewhere, Australia increased their overall lead to 158 points at the lunch break on the fourth day. Nitish Reddy’s courageous effort ended at 114, helping to take India’s first innings total to 369, and giving the Australians a 105-run lead. Major milestones for the Australian team were recorded by captain Pat Cummins, Scott Boland and Nathan , each taking three wickets.

Reddy was bowled out in the deep by Lyon (3/96 in 28.3 overs) as India concluded their first innings in the 120th over. The Indian bowlers, under the leadership of Bumrah, came back with energy in the second innings, and the option of giving the new ball to Akash Deep proved to be a wise one.

The Indian bowler was able to maintain the pressure, while Bumrah continued to destabilize the bats of Konstas and Usman Khawaja on a regular basis.

Watching the performances of young players like Sam Konstas against established champions like Jasprit Bumrah raises interesting questions about their development and potential in modern cricket. This match illustrates how crucial each meeting can be, both for individuals and for team dynamics. What do you think about the impact that such rivalries can have on the careers of young talents?
