A worker was injured during a work accident on the Concentrator 2 expansion site at the Bloom Lake mine.

“An overhead crane collapsed,” reports Isabelle Raymond, spokesperson for the CNESST. “At that time, several workers were under the overhead crane, busy with formwork removal. »

A worker employed by Construction et Expertise PG, a subcontractor of Ore iron Quebec (MFQ), was transported to hospital. “We do not fear for our lives,” specifies the spokesperson.

The accident occurred on December 11.

Following the events, MFQ set up a psychological support and accompaniment service for employees and partners who expressed the need.

“Our thoughts are with the injured worker, his loved ones and the colleagues who were on site during the incident,” said Noémie Prégent-Charlebois, spokesperson for Ore iron Quebec.

MFQ claims to have always made the security of its working environments “a top priority”.

“Each workplace accident will always be one accident too many,” says Noémie Prégent-Charlebois.

Investigation

CNESST inspectors are continuing to collect information to try to understand the circumstances of the accident.

“The teams will be able to count on our full collaboration and the conclusions will allow us to prevent such a situation from happening again,” indicates the spokesperson for the mining company.

“Several discussions took place with the employer,” mentions, for her part, Isabelle Raymond. “Our inspectors will soon be on site to ensure that the premises are secure and that the requested fixes are put in place. »
