1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6…
Obviously, you will have noticed that I can count to six. But six is also the number of goals scored in the third period of yesterday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
This is unacceptable.
We could have expected Martin St-Louis to punish his guys in practice this morning, but he didn’t do it.
He shouted loudly at times and he stopped a few drills to talk to his players and that was it.
The coach spoke to the media after training and said he liked his players’ effort today.
But in his comments, Martin St-Louis also sent a subtle message to the players: tomorrow, they better be in shape.
The coach is aware that the channel landed yesterday, but he expects to see his club bounce back against the powerful Jets in Winnipeg:
Tomorrow is a big match for us. – Martin St-Louis
I would have liked to see Martin St-Louis get angry after yesterday’s match at the press conference.
But he decided to opt for calm, as has been (too) often the case since the start of the season.
That said, something has to change tomorrow if the Canadian gets another volley.
It’s not because the club had won three games out of four (before yesterday’s) that the players had the right to give up on the ice and what’s disturbing is that it often happens from the start of the season. And if the coach continues to accept these moments, the players will never understand on their side.
Martin St-Louis describes yesterday’s third period as a mistake… But you can’t win or progress when these mistakes are frequent as we are seeing at the moment.
All this to say that we will see how the team will respond tomorrow and that if we trust Martin St-Louis, it should be better than last night at the Bell Centre.
Although, it would be difficult to do worse…
In burst
– The Hawks are not wasting time.
– Love for Brad Marchand.
– A fine for Josh Norris.
– The Hurricanes are still looking for a goalie.
– Not bad.
