The Senegalese Head of State, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye, presented his heartfelt condolences to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to the royal family and to the Moroccan people following the recall to God of Her Royal Highness, Princess Lalla Latifa of the Kingdom of Morocco.

“It is with deep sadness that I learned of the recall to God of Her Royal Highness, Princess Lalla Latifa of the Kingdom of Morocco,” said President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on X (formerly Twitter).

“On behalf of the Senegalese people and in my personal name, I extend to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the royal family and the brotherly Moroccan people our heartfelt condolences. May Allah, the Merciful, welcome the illustrious deceased to His Paradise,” he added.

The spokesman for the Moroccan royal palace announced on Saturday the death on the same day of Princess Lalla Latifa, mother of King Mohammed VI

“The spokesperson of the Royal Palace announces with immense sadness and deep affliction, the death of HRH Princess Lalla Latifa, may God have mercy on her, this Saturday, June 29, 2024, wife of the late His Majesty King Hassan II, and mother of His Majesty King Mohammed VI,” the text reads.

Princess Lalla Latifa, born Latifa Amahzoune, became a princess when she married King Hassan II on November 9, 1961.

With King Hassan II who died in July 1999, she will have five children: princesses Lalla Meryem, Lalla Asmaa, Lalla Hasnaa, prince Moulay Rachid and the current king of Morocco, Mohammed VI.
