PORTRAIT – The Utah-born painter, who specializes in political paintings glorifying Donald Trump, claims to be part of the ancient tradition of political painting.

Standing in the boat, Donald Trump shines his lantern on a desolate swamp. In the distance, the dome of the Capitol appears in the mist, surrounded by dead trees. Around him, at the oars, we recognize the main figures of his 2018 Administration: John Bolton, then National Security Advisor and Nikki Haley, his ambassador to the United Nations, Secretary of Defense James Mattis and the Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and spokesperson Sarah Sanders, as well as Melania and Ivanka Trump.

The table is titled “Crossing the Swamp”, in reference to the nickname given by the Republicans to the American federal capital: Le Marécage (the Swamp). It is directly inspired by the famous painting by Emanuel Leutze, representing the crossing of the Delaware by George Washington during the American War of Independence.
