Fire in the Kennedy Tower: smoke would not be the cause of the third death

We know more about the third person who died following the Kennedy Tower fire. She would not have died from the fumes, but from a respiratory illness.

The third person who died following the fire in the Kennedy Tower at the beginning of last week did not die from smoke-related poisoning but from an exacerbation of bronchopneumonopathy chronic obstructive disorder (COPD) due to the stress of the fire, the Liège public prosecutor’s office said on Monday. It is a respiratory disease that causes narrowing of the airways.

It was in intensive care that the victim succumbed to his injuries. We announced his death to you this Friday and the Liège police confirmed the information the next day, Saturday. The septuagenarian, father of a family, was known in Liège for the numerous photos he took. The man had notably immortalized the floods that occurred in 2021 and which affected the yacht port, from his apartment in the Kennedy Tower.

On Sunday, the mayor of Liège also paid tribute to this third victim and announced the possible creation of a kitty for the benefit of the victims’ families. On behalf of the College and Council, I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of this resident.“, wrote Willy Demeyer.

Collaboration and solidarity have been at the heart of these events and many of you have asked how to make a donation to the victims. We should communicate this Monday the account number on which you will be able to make this donation.“.
