Free day at museums: an important initiative for the region

This initiative, which allows the public to discover the art and history of the region for free, among other things thanks to the financial participation of the Ministry of Culture and Communications, is very successful among the population.

Benoit Berthiaume, director of the Charlevoix Maritime Museum, confirms that attendance increases considerably at his place during these days. Both locals and outsiders take advantage of the opportunity to visit the museums:

Since last year, several museums have also included activities during these days. For example, the Musée maritime de Charlevoix offers a musical program of maritime folklore, while the Musée d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul offers creative activities and guided tours.

For its part, the Charlevoix Museum offers the possibility of carrying out family activities that showcase local culture. Its director, Sylvain Gendreau, is particularly pleased with the freedom offered by the ministry to attract a new clientele:

Free Sundays aren’t just for going to the museum once. “They’ve already paid to see the exhibition and now people are taking advantage of it to bring their family, for example, or their friends,” said Gabrielle Bouchard, director of the Musée d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul.

Note that the next free day in the Charlevoix museums will be Sunday, July 7.
