2nd round of legislative elections: New proxy day without appointment at the Consulate

2nd round of legislative elections: New proxy day without appointment at the Consulate
2nd round of legislative elections: New proxy day without appointment at the Consulate

You will not be able to vote at your polling station in New York during the second round of the legislative elections, Saturday, July 6, and wish to make a proxy? The Consulate facilitates the process with a third “Open House” day this Tuesday July 2 (the two previous ones were on June 20 and 25). 9am to 9pmall day long, without interruption, you can come to the Consulate without making an appointment in advance.

A reminder: the person you are going to designate to vote in your place no longer needs to be registered on the same electoral list as you (they can therefore vote in a different polling station than you). The only constraint is that this designated person must vote for you in your polling station. As in the first round, there will only be 3 voting sites for this second round of legislative voting: the Consulate, the Lycée Français and the Villa Albertine (to find out where to vote, click here, depending on your postal code ). No office in Mamaroneck and Jersey City so you must tell the person voting for you where the voting site for the runoff election will be.

What documents to bring?

This Tuesday, June 25, you will simply need to go to the Consulate reception (934 Fifth Ave.between 74th and 75th streets) with a French identity document (be careful, not an American driver’s license!) which can be:

  • your French national identity card (valid or expired)
  • your French passport (valid or expired)
  • an official document (valid) issued by a French public administration. It must include your last name, first name, date and place of birth, as well as a photo. It must also identify the administrative authority which issued it to you, the date and place of issue.
  • a card issued when you registered in the register of French citizens abroad and the consular registration card. Both must be valid.

And the following information:

• either the reference obtained after entering the power of attorney on the maprocuration.gouv.fr portal (strongly recommended by the consulate chancellery)
• either the 2 sheets of the Cerfa form that you will have previously completed, indicating in particular your voter number (NNE) and that of the voter who will vote in your place.

How to find your voter number (NNE)?

If you have forgotten your NNE, it can be found on the service-public website here. We tested it at French Morning and easily obtained this number, but be careful, you must:

  • check the box “I vote abroad”
  • in the “Your consular electoral list” field, start writing “New” for New York and you will be offered “New Delhi” and “New York” – so you can choose New York
  • clearly indicate your birth name (no spouse) as well as all the first names that appear on your official documents (one, two, three or more first names, in the order of civil status).

To know

At the entrance to the Consulate, you will indicate to the security agent the purpose of your request (“voting proxy”). The other usual consular services will remain open during this “Open House” day.

The chancellery reminds that for any information, you can send an email to [email protected] or call (212) 606-3600, Monday to Friday, 9am to 1pm.
