Athletics-gold medal for Cheikh Tidiane Diouf in the 400 m- Bara Thiam FSA vice-president: “There is a feeling of mission accomplished in relation to the African championships”

The Senegalese Athletics Federation (FSA) welcomed the gold medal won in the 400 meters by Cheikh Tidiane Diouf at the 23rd African Athletics Championships which will take place from June 21 to 26, 2024 in Douala, Cameroon. The Senegalese sprinter dominated the race with a time of 45’23”, thus offering himself in this discipline, a title that Senegal had not won since 1996. “There is a feeling of mission accomplished in relation to these African championships. To be on the highest step and at the summit of Africa, we could not have hoped for better. There is a feeling of general satisfaction. Cheikh Tidiane Diouf is an athlete who has worked hard to achieve these results. He is very serious in training. This is an opportunity to congratulate him and his trainer who detected him. He started from nothing with him. In a very recent period, he has made him a champion of Africa,” reacted Bara Thiam, vice-president of the FSA. “The Senegalese Athletics Federation is very happy and very satisfied with its coach, the national technical director and all the athletes who are of this caliber. Pape Serigne Diène trained Cheikh Tidiane Diouf. He is an athlete who has a lot of ability. If he has more support, he could be worth a lot of satisfaction in Senegal,” he adds. It should be remembered that the African champion had come close to the minimum at the Martinique athletics meeting and had missed his qualification for the Olympics by 3 hundredths (45’03).
