[Urgent] European elections: the far right crushes the presidential majority

The verdict on the European elections fell at 8 p.m. with the first estimates from the major polling institutes. French voters chose to make a major move to the far right, granting more than 32% (according to TF1, 31.5% according to France 2) to Jordan Bardella’s list.

The list led by Valérie Hayer representing the Macronist majority barely exceeds 15%, or half as many votes. In 2019, this gap was only one point. In third position, Raphaël Glusksman’s list is at 14.3% according to the estimate broadcast at 8 p.m. by TF1-LCI.

In a first reaction Jordan Bardella welcomed his victory and called for a dissolution of the National Assembly. An unscheduled speech by President Emmanuel Macron is announced by the Elysée in the evening.

Raphaël Gluksmann for the PS and Place Publique, which is hot on the Renaissance list, declared his “ pride » of the score obtained by his list but regretted the score of the RN. “ We are living in a historic moment… the extreme right is in the lead, in the institutions the enemies of Europe will work (…). Well, we will stand up to them in Europe and in France.»
