The New York Stock Exchange opened lower on Tuesday after a hesitant start to June, while awaiting news from the labor market in the United States.

The index Dow Jones yielded 0.39%, the Nasdaq dropped 0.17% and the expanded index S&P 500 fell by 0.24% during the first exchanges.

Gamestop fell by 4.98%, after yesterday’s surge of nearly 26.66%. LAmerican financial analyst Keith Gill, known online under the nickname “Roaring Kitty”, had published enigmatic messages on the social network X for several weeks. The latter had already caused a buying frenzy on the shares of the American chain of stores video games during the coronavirus pandemic. And the latest message has once again caused the price to rise. What was he all about? Ongoing bets worth $116 million on the video game distributor. In response, investors panicked, pushing the price to $29.42.

Oil widens its losses

Oil prices widened their losses on Tuesday, in the wake of the OPEC+ meeting on Sunday, interpreted by investors as the prospect of an increase in supply to come, which could lead to a surplus market. Around 11:25 GMT, a barrel of American WTI fell 1.91% to $72.80 and a barrel of Brent from the North Sea fell 1.58% to $77.12.

In their wake, companies in the energy sector fell: TotalEnergies lost 2.12%, BP 3.54%, Shell 1.96% and Eni 2.69%.

Going against the trend, the British oil and energy services group Petrofac soared 52% in London when its trading resumed after a month of suspension and the publication of an increased annual loss but an order book doubled.

On the exchange and bitcoin side

On the foreign exchange market, the dollar returned 0.58% against the yen, at 155.17 yen per dollar around 11:25 GMT. The euro fell by 0.33% against the dollar, to one euro for 1.0868 dollars. Bitcoin fell 0.32% to 68.9876 dollars.
